Into the Still Blue Under the Never Sky Trilogy Veronica Rossi Books

I won't go into the plot. Other reviewers have mentioned it, and it's talked about in the blurb for the book itself.

So what can I say about it? I can tell you that I finished it in less than day. And I can say is that this is the best YA/dystopian series I've read. Yes, even better than that bestseller turned box office hit. I briefly considered the possibilities of this series going the Hollywood way eventually, but I think this story needs to stay in the imagination. Don't get me wrong; I'd definitely go watch just to see how it translated to the screen. I just don't think it could measure up. Notice I said "story" as opposed to "book." It was so much more than a book. Ms. Rossi's writing style is uniquely her own. She puts in character quirks, subtle nuances that we'd actually notice if this story were to unfold before us. This is what makes the story "real," so to speak. It helps to bring the characters we've become so fond of to life. Their struggles become our struggles. Their pain becomes our pain. Their love becomes our love. This is the true mark of a fantastic author, and I, for one, can't wait to see what Ms. Rossi brings us next.

Bottom line? If you're holding out due to the disappointment of Allegiant (seriously, we all felt it), don't. If you haven't committed to the series, please do. You won't regret it. Bravo, Ms. Rossi.

Into the Still Blue Under the Never Sky Trilogy Veronica Rossi Books Reviews

I absolutely LOVED the Under the Never Sky trilogy, and wish I could give more than 5 stars! Besides Veronica Rossi's writing being superb, here are my three highlights without any recounts or spoilers (okay, mostly no spoilers)...

1. "A million ways to die. One way to live." Both Perry's and Aria's points of view demonstrate the tagline perfectly. I'm not normally a fan of more than one POV, but the author executed the POVs very well. I loved both characters equally! Their journeys -- individual, yet entwined -- were arced well within each book, but especially across the series.

2. If you read my reviews, you know I'm a fan of romance. With this series, the romance is a lot without being too much. The romance scenes are heart-pounding from an emotional perspective, eloquently woven within the plot. (For those of you looking for clean reads, the physical components are mostly only implied, but characters do engage in premarital relations.)

MY LAST HIGHLIGHT IS A SPOILER IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE ENDING, STOP READING.

3. Perry and Aria get their happily-ever-after! My only {tiny} gripe is that I wish the last scene included both Perry and Aria. Roar is great too, but...well, I loved the romance and wanted to end on that note. Although, that does remind me that friendships were important to moving to the plot along well, none more than Roar's.

As a disclaimer, I only reviews books I can honestly give a positive rating.
The battle is real – with this conclusion to the trilogy ‘Into the Still Blue’ brings about all the physical fight against the elements and each other in hope to find an Oasis from a decaying environment and factions struggling for power. On the surface the plot is outstanding, but the delivery felt a somewhat lukewarm.

I felt Aria finally got her sea-legs. In the previous novels I felt she bounced around between place, people and conviction. As much as I did not connect with her, I appreciated her story.

Perry just seemed to struggle. From the start - right to the end... and I think that is just who he is. So that left me kind of meh!

I think I was more excited about the dog Flea in this novel. The mention of him always brought a smile to my face.

It felt masterfully crafted, though I must admit I never really connected with Aria or Perry throughout this trilogy; and something about the writing style had me wandering away from the book quite a lot. It's not that it was boring, I just never felt compelled to read on.

I feel like I want to say that the supporting characters had more depth than our two protagonists. Maybe because Aria and Perry were so single minded. So serious. That their narrative came across slightly monotone. There was no fluctuation in ambience and motive.

There wasn't anything that struck me as particularly wrong with this concluding novel, just there was something missing. I think the dual perspective, again, gave too many answers and details for the story, eliminating a great opportunity to up the tension.

On the subject of loss and Death - I was a little on the fence with how this was dealt with. There were varying degrees of impact from the loss of certain characters. I felt more importance and compassion should have been considered. It would have also made for a much more poignant conclusion. I also did not like how murder and killing were handled either. Again, the facts were mostly glossed over to move the story along. When it would have been a great opportunity to up the emotion and paint a picture of devastation, brutality, and inevitability of the fight for survival against nature, and each other.

The plot unravelled very organically and I never felt the hand of the author guiding along the story. Though, the writing style did not paint a detailed enough picture of the world for me. I still have trouble picturing the main characters and the landscape they live in. Some aspects are crystal clear, but others felt washed out.

I liked the tone the novel ended on and how the storyline wrapped up. But I was still hoping for more mythology from this dystopian world to explore. Get some more technology in this sci-fi. Oh well…

It's not a series I would recommend to friends - it's okay. But there are much more entertaining collections out there.
I won't go into the plot. Other reviewers have mentioned it, and it's talked about in the blurb for the book itself.
