I have spent a lot of years researching the 1692 Salem Witch Trials,visited Danvers-the original Salem Village and Salem itself-during the year and on many successive Halloweens.I feel comfortable there.Gossamer is not that kind of town. It used to be the best place to live in the desert,but something evil strolled in and changed the people.
Dorothy Good,daughter of a murdered Salem Witch,has lived too many centuries and just wants her townspeople to be happy. But there is a dark secret that Gossamer hides and it is that secret that some outsiders wanted-badly enough that some had no problem killing for it.
Soon,all is lost,but not because of human greed.Lost for love;something that once brought joy into Dorothy's lonely life. No,now love is a nightmare in the form of a gorgeous vampire.

I read a complimentary copy of this novel from the author for an honest review.
Gossamer is one Hell of a ride! A sleep stealing rampage through your mental landscape. Lee Thompson doesn't just tap your emotions, he goes after them the way Angus Young attacks a power chord and has you banging your head before leaving you, completely drained and on your knees.
Highest recommendation.
This is (and sure will be) one of the best books I've
read this year,by far.This tale can be called a dark
fantasy,there are witches and vampires and other stran-
ge creature, but I think with Lee Thompson being the au-
thor is only a label.Overall there is fiction,there is a
story, a very good one.
The author develops the tale with a precise prose,it's
easy to get into the novel and into the characters.At the end of the story we know very well the family that
is trapped in Gossamer(the name of the city when occurs
the story)and this is one(the main) of the reasons why
I like the book.Despite witches,vampires...the story is
focused in this family and their doubts,feelings,stru-
ggles in their lifes and we can see ourselves reflected
in them.Highly recommended.
Not only is Lee Thompson a hell of a good guy, he can also write a damn good story! Lee's prose is clean and fast. His narratives are smooth and well thought out. His stories are dark (sometimes very dark with shades of fantasy), but he never loses sight of the emotional element in his stories in favor of cheap shocks or tubs of gore.
Gossamer A Story of Love and Tragedy is the tale of a witch born of betrayal and revenge and a vampire bent on destruction and driven by bloodlust. An entire town gets caught up in the crosshairs and when the two forces collide with an innocent family in the middle it will be a battle to the death.
This work really read like two smaller novellas for me - each with their own story lines and then crossing together at the end for the climax. I think that Lee has easily established himself as one of the top dark fiction writers in the genre today and Gossamer is no exception. Highly Recommended!

Lines like the one above are what set Lee Thompson in a category of his own. The diction and language have an almost fairy tale kind of quality, but despite the more formal tone and style, the action is constant and moves the story along quickly.
Thompson infuses each of his works with a unique voice that belongs to each individual character and one will never be mistaken for the other. "Gossamer" is a mythical, almost philosophical book that strips the reader naked and forces us to challenge our assumptions about love with passages that will touch you in places inside yourself you forgot exist. It's difficult to describe the beauty of Thompson's prose, as it has to be experienced in order to be truly felt, but reading "Gossamer" is like drinking a rich wine. It's opulent and Thompson makes each word count. If you haven't already added Lee Thompson's works to your bookshelf, what are you waiting for?
I've read all of Lee Thompson's books and loved them all. But...
For me, research, or in this case, lack of it, can make or break a book. This story starts out in Salem during the witch trials of 1692. The author speaks of tin cans, newspapers, grocery stores, paper bags any many other things that simply weren't around in the Colonies.
Unlike spelling and grammar errors which can be fixed with updates, research errors live forever. If you're bothered by inaccuracies like I am this book is not for you. If you can get past that, this is a great story by an otherwise wonderful author. I'm just sorry he didn't take the time he should have on this book.
