I can't believe that I purchased this book on March 23, 2015 and just finished reading it now, August 2018. I knew Victoria H. Smith was an excellent author because I read two of the Found By You books in 2014 and 2015 and loved them. I purchased Brody but have yet to finish it. I also have The Dividing Line and Drake's Destiny, both continuations of The Space Between.Griffin and Roxie in the Found By You books are very different than Drake and Lacey in The Space Between. They are both interracial couples, Roxie is African American and Griffin is White. That's the only similarity. Lacey is interracial - her father is white and her mother is African American whereas Drake is Asian American adopted by White parents.
He heard her sing onstage and met her later that night. Due to a misunderstanding, they got off on the wrong foot. Things didn't improve when the next day he learned she had been hired as a personal assistant (nanny) for him and his fifteen year old sister.
Both Drake and Lacey are both extremely mature for their age, especially sexually. Lacey is 18 and Drake is 19. Lacey just graduated from high school and is caring for her mother who is dying from cancer. She's very poor and lives in Chicago on the West side. Drake's father is the Senator from Illinois and they live on the Northshore.
In spite of their differences, they managed to fall in love. Another misunderstanding caused them to separate. He went to college. After her mother's death, she moved to Paris to star in a play. In spite of their differences and his parents interference, they reunited in Paris and had a happily for now ending.

The Space Between edition by Victoria H Smith Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This book actually deserves the five stars! It is a very good novel about love, fighting for what you love, and the ignorance that people still see with color.
Truman Drake is a 19 year old Korean adopted into a white family. His father is senator and like most teens, Drake likes to break a few rules. One night his rule breaking gets him face to face with a beautiful 18 year old biracial woman named from the other side of the tracks. Drake is desperate to see her again, so desperate he goes to drastic measures just to get her attention. Not only does he grab the girl's attention, but the law's as well. Drake ends up in trouble, and is pissed yet oddly enough wants to see the woman who caused it all. He does, but the situation becomes a bit complicated.
Eighteen year old Lacey Douglas is beautiful. She has a voice of an angle, face of a goddess and heart of gold. Lacey's mother is sick and her father is MIA. She works at a theater to make money to help support her mother but that's not enough. She has dreams, dreams of becoming an opera singer. She defiantly has the voice for it but with her mother's medical state, it would be wrong for her to leave her stranded. Lacey knows that taking the job she gets a call back for can help extend her mother's life, but would it be worth it if she cannot be with her mother?
With ignorant, racist, classist parents the two lovers must find a way to overcome the barriers that are placed in the way and connect the space between.
Once in awhile a book come along and leave you wanting more. This book captured me from the very first page to the last page. Left me breathless speechless, so in tuned with this two characters. The barriers were broken and when they met I did not see color I see to people that have a connection so deep so predestined that I to felt it. Lacey a biracial girl on the west side of Chicago met drake an Asian American from the north side who when first introduced had identity problem he made a bet with his sister to buy drugs, that night he ventured on the wrong side was the day his life literally change when he met the beautiful and talented lacy Douglas. Lacey is a black girl whose father is white also struggle with identity issues. That night drake heard Lacey song was when he he knew that she is the one". From them sharing an intimidate moment to them disagreeing with him buying drugs. She saw first hands what drugs can do and she didn't want drake to found out. She wanted to teach him a lesson yes it blew up in her face. Both realized that the complete each other and after reading from that encounter to reading their trials and tribulation they found out that they both need each other. I was glad to see the authors brilliancy of this multicultural romance. Honestly this is my first time reading this authors work and am impress. The journey that this couple face, parents who don't agree to this relationship because of social, status. Lacey's mom and her illness. They endured it all because they fought to be together and prove that there love is real. I highly recommend anyone who likes good storyline character development real life issues to the this book. It had no labels, no overly used words and It hard real life characters facing real life issues that am sure someone you know went through. Again I give this book my full support and urges you to read it. You will not be disappointed.
